When renowned product designer and interior design firm leader, Tom Dixon (Design Research Studio), asked us to collaborate on an incredible interior project in London’s most anticipated residential tower, we were delighted to craft an extraordinary piano for them.

Once the project was complete, we invited Maya Irgalina, an acclaimed classical pianist based in London, to the apartment to play the instrument and help us to introduce it to the world.

PH Stories: The PH Grand Piano at a Private Residence, California

Inside of Aalto’s original Villa Mairea there is a space known as the ‘Piano Room’ where Alvar Aalto’s wife Aino Maria Marsio-Aalto (herself an architect and designer) is said to have enjoyed playing the piano in the home of Aalto’s friends and clients Harry and Maire Gullicksen for whom Villa Mairea was created. The piano inside of Villa Mairea is an original Poul Henningsen designed PH Grand Piano produced in 1930s Denmark.

The PH Grand Piano at a Private Residence, Copenhagen

When Besmir Ismaili recently purchased a house in Copenhagen for his parents, sister and brothers, it represented a symbol of his achievement as a Music Producer. Besmir’s love and talent for music is a family trait, since his Father is a successful Albanian folk musician who moved with his family to Denmark during the 1990s. Besmir wanted to buy a gift to be appreciated for his Father: his choice was the Poul Henningsen designed PH Grand Piano, which sits in pride of place in the modernist family home, itself a futuristic display of minimalism created from structural glass. PH Pianos were delighted to create a customised PH Grand Piano dedicated to Besmir’s Father that would fit perfectly in the new family home.

David Syre; Piano Heaven

In addition to being a prolific artist, who has created a large body of work in the last decade working from his 100 year old farm, David Syre also finds a connection with music. In 2018 David visited the PH Pianos flagship showroom on Bredgade in Copenhagen, where he discovered the Poul Henningsen designed PH Grand Piano. Immediately smitten, David became the owner of a custom built PH Grand Piano which has since been placed in his Washington studio. David has described how his PH Grand Piano has added to the “Personality” of his farm and considers it simply to be “Piano Heaven.”
