A Visit to the Royal House

It was on the occasion of awarding of the Queen Ingrid's Honorary Scholarship, that the PH Grand Piano shared the stage with Danish royalty this past month.

On Sunday March 27 2022, a very special scholarship concert and performance took place at Amalienborg, the residence of the Danish Royal Family. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte and Her Majesty the Queen Anne-Marie awarded the scholarship for the tenth- and final- time.

The two young artists granted the award were Danish ballet dancer Emma Riis-Kofoed and Swedish violinist Johan Dalene. The grant, a total of 500.000 DKK, has been awarded every two years to two talented performing artists.

The event, which was broadcast on TV2, allowed Danes the chance to see all four palaces of the Amalienborg residence. Starting with lots of music, song and dance, there were also excerpts from the ballet film “Palæerne danser” which was created in Amalienborg and shared in the party’s performances.

Nicolai Kornerup, the well-known pianist and composer based in Copenhagen, works with X Factor Denmark as music producer and arranger, and has also produced albums, arranged for other Danish artists. When he was contracted by the Royal house to create the arrangements and perform for palæerne dansere, it was his wish to include the PH Grand Piano in the event.

“I have long had an interest in Poul Henningsen. In my studies, I created a production using the cabaret songs of Poul Henningsen and have always found the instruments of PH fascinating, and so I knew I wanted to use one in this event.”

- Nicolai Kornerup

For Kornerup, it was the artful form of the instrument that made the PH Grand Piano the natural choice for the event. Kornerup, who also performed at the Queen’s 50th Anniversary celebration, chose it because its sculptural form elevated the performance to a new level. “It is like a whole new instrument,” Kornerup comments, “that creates a totally unique experience, complementary to the dancers and the beautiful palaces.” Designed in 1930, the incredible legacy of Danish Design is also so futuristic and stunning.

Being on stage at the Royal Palaces is a great honor, and we are excited for the next appearances of the stunning PH Grand Pianos!
