The PH Grand Piano at a Private Residence, Copenhagen

When Besmir Ismaili recently purchased a house in Copenhagen for his parents, sister and brothers, it represented a symbol of his achievement as a Music Producer. Besmir’s love and talent for music is a family trait, since his Father is a successful Albanian folk musician who moved with his family to Denmark during the 1990s. Besmir wanted to buy a gift to be appreciated for his Father: his choice was the Poul Henningsen designed PH Grand Piano, which sits in pride of place in the modernist family home, itself a futuristic display of minimalism created from structural glass. PH Pianos were delighted to create a customised PH Grand Piano dedicated to Besmir’s Father that would fit perfectly in the new family home.

As a music producer today, Besmir makes music in the Hip Hop genre which is very different from the Albian folk music that he grew up with. What is interesting is that the piano is the foundation of so many diverse genres of music. As one of the most versatile instruments of tuned percussion, it is the piano is the ultimate tool on which to compose melody, harmony and rhythm: regardless of whether those components are ultimately presented in electronic form on a Hip Hop recording or as a live recording on a traditional folk or instrumental album, the fundamentals of creating music remain the same, very often with piano at the core. In Ismaili household, the design icon that is both a symbol of music and a symbol of Denmark – the PH Grand Piano – is enjoyed by everyone and is at the very heart of the family’s home and creative life.
