Kelly Lenahan Concert during 3 Days of Design

Kelly Lenahan performed a beautiful afternoon concert for live audience and live-stream that was both interesting and engaging. She selected a program of music by female classical composers, including a set of three pieces by Lili Boulanger, Amy Beach’s Ballad, and a set of variations by the French composer Louise Farrenc.

Performing on two different pianos including the beautiful PH Bow Grand, Lenahan is the first pianist to play our new, just-delivered PH Grand Piano, Legacy Edition with black woven leather. The stunning instrument was designed in 1930 by the renowned Danish designer, Poul Henningsen. Today, it is produced exclusively by PH Pianos based in Copenhagen, under worldwide license from the Henningsen family estate.

Kelly said of the experience, “Both the Bow Grand and the Legacy Edition are beautiful instruments that create their own unique soundscapes, and they brought the music to life in bold, beautiful ways.” She describes the instruments as responsive and easy to play. “The touch, control, and sound of each of these instruments, in addition to how stunning they look, makes playing them feel effortless and inspiring!”

Originally from Pennsylvania, USA, Kelly studied in London and the US and has played with orchestras in the UK and US. She is decorated with numerous prizes as a soloist and chamber musician, and now works as pianist at the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen. With her connection to the dance world, it is no surprise that Kelly is a pianist who embodies grace and elegance in her musicianship.

PH Pianos meets Kelly Lenahan

It is no accident that Kelly came to perform at PH Pianos. Kelly explains that she has long been interested in learning about the instruments designed by Poul Henningsen. The Kongelige Teater, which houses the Royal Danish Ballet where Kelly works as a pianist, is just 150 meters from our showroom, and she passed the shop many times before introducing herself.

“I have always been fascinated by instruments with special cases,” Kelly shares. “When I was young, I encountered an art case instrument made by Steinway at an art exhibition. I was entranced by the piano, and the exhibition guard noticed my fascination and invited me to play that piano.” Ever since, Lenahan has been drawn to art case pianos like those designed by Poul Henningsen.

Excellence in Art and Design

Founder & CEO of PH Pianos, Soren Vincents Svendsen, expressed gratitude to Kelly for a fantastic performance. "It was so lovely to hear the performance by Kelly on both the PH Bow Grand Piano and our completely new PH Grand Piano, Legacy edition,” says Svendsen. “We received the PH Grand Piano on the same day as the performance, and it sounds amazing.

“It is our strategy to invite excellent professional pianists into our showroom and let them test and try the PH Pianos for an audience. This is the best way for us to demonstrate that PH Pianos are not only design icons and unique sculptures, but also fine musical instruments of the highest sound quality. With our many different editions of PH Pianos, we can always satisfy individual preferences for sound quality."

Svendsen adds one more point: "I often say that PH Pianos play on all senses in life. I always feel confirmed in this saying when we have an audience who appreciates the high musical qualities of our PH Pianos, but at the same time are inspired and enthusiastic about the design and aesthetics of these unique instruments. I think the same goes for the pianists and performers."
