An Evening to Remember: Marco Pomelli’s Release Concert at PH Pianos

November is a time of year marked by darkening skies, by the arrival of cool weather and a communal retreat to the cozy indoors. On November 11, pianist Marco Pomelli invited friends and guests to a particularly beautiful evening of reflection, camaraderie, and music. Candlelight and lamplight from the PH lamps illuminated Marco as he performed a concert of his own works in the showroom of PH Pianos.

Lineature: Art and Music

To celebrate the release of his new recording, Lineature, Marco reached out to us to host his concert. Marco, an Italian-Canadian pianist living in Copenhagen for some years, has an impressive training from music conservatories all over the world. Steeped in the masterworks of classical giants, he has also been composing his own works. His pieces explore some of the very beautiful percussive sounds the piano can make when played in different parts of the instrument.
The album, Lineature, creates a unique soundscape which worked just as convincingly in live performance as on the studio recording.

Through the use of extended techniques which utilise the potential of the entire piano, Pomelli creates sounds reminiscent of other instruments that cannot quite be defined. These sounds are oneiric and natural, like in a freehand drawing where lines intertwine; sometimes spontaneously entangling while at other times embracing.

It was a meditative and very beautiful concert, with a rapt audience cohabiting with the music in a special atmosphere. Pomelli performed both on one of the traditional pianos in our showroom and on the PH Bow Grand Piano.

“It was the perfect setting for my music, which, being very free and improvisational, is spontaneously shaped by the settings in which I perform it.”

Pomelli has previously performed at PH Pianos as part of our collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Music, for The Chopin Project. We were very happy to have a chance to work once more with him. “I was very inspired by the magical sound of the PH Bow Grand Piano and the atmosphere of the showroom, so intimate and full of true works of art.”
