The PH Upright Piano: Poul Henningsen Piano Design For Smaller Spaces

A Smaller Danish Design

In 1939 Poul Henningsen made a design for an upright piano featuring the same signature features as its larger counterpart, the PH Grand Piano. Poul Henningsen’s PH Upright Piano has the same design hallmarks of the PH Grand Piano: fundamental to the shape is a minimal body that is sleek, fluidly shaped and devoid of the hard angles expected of a standard equivalent ‘upright piano’.

Contemporary design

Today, PH Pianos are delighted to produce a contemporary version of Poul Henningsen’s PH Upright Piano, perfect for smaller spaces where it is not possible to accommodate a full sized PH Grand Piano. Each individually numbered PH Upright Piano is produced under exclusive licence from the estate of the late Poul Henningsen and today is built from the same key materials as the PH Grand Piano: stainless steel, wood and the most tactile of leather. The leather banding on the PH Upright Piano is completely customisable, so it is possible to commission a musical instrument that is unique to suit a particular decorative setting.

The sound quality produced by the PH Upright Piano is first-class: it is also a fine musical instrument as well as a beautiful piece of sculpture for the home or venue, eminently capable of enthralling a large audience of people as well as just the pianist alone.

Investment in entertainment

The PH Upright Piano is an investment in entertainment pleasure for both now and the future. It is capable to be used as a work tool for the serious musician, as a performance tool for even the most seasoned of performers and as a piece of art for those for whom the look and feel of their home or venue really matters. Designed in the 1930s and as relevant today as almost one hundred years ago, the PH Upright Piano is a classic art-piano design at it’s very best.
